Wellbeing and self-care for optimum health

If you’re experiencing illness, recovering from surgery, living with a chronic condition or want to recondition your deconditioned body, yoga therapy is an integral part of your treatment and healing journey. Christine will assess your current situation and incorporate your short and long term goals to develop a personal practice tailor made specifically for you.

Recondition your deconditioned body – enhance overall health and wellness

Deconditioning refers to the changes in the body that occur during a period of inactivity. Changes happen in the heart, lungs, and muscles. You may feel tired and weak with a decreased ability to be active. You may have challenges with your balance and shortness of breath. Start your reconditioning regime with a gentle yoga practice focused on building strength, stability, flexibility, balance, increased range of motion and increased cardiovascular capability. Improve your endurance.

Healthy functional movement as you age

Functional movement sessions mirror common daily activities, like getting out of a chair, making a bed, lifting grocery bags, climbing stairs, shopping and gardening, etc. They usually involve multi-planar, multi-joint movements which place demands on the body's core muscles and neuromuscular system. Maintain your independence and agency to perform tasks and engage in enjoyable activities as you age.

Improve your posture and core integration

When you're stronger and more flexible, your posture improves. Most standing and sitting poses develop core strength. With a stronger core, you're more likely to sit and stand "tall”. A regular yoga practice increases body awareness; this allows you to adjust your posture to maintain a neutral spine.

Pain management

The American College of Physicians recommends yoga as a first-line treatment for chronic low back pain. Inflammation is often associated with chronic pain conditions, especially autoimmune disorders. Research suggests that yoga reduces inflammation by decreasing the body’s stress response.

Improve cardiovascular health

Regular yoga practice may reduce levels of stress and body-wide inflammation, contributing to healthier hearts. Several of the factors contributing to heart disease, including high blood pressure and excess weight, can also be addressed through yoga.

Increased energy and brighter moods

You may feel increased mental and physical energy, a boost in alertness and enthusiasm, and fewer negative feelings after getting into a routine of practising yoga.

Learn how to slow down, relax, and improve sleep

Research shows that a consistent bedtime yoga routine helps you get in the right mindset and prepare your body to fall asleep and stay asleep.
